Should You Upgrade To CS4? By Bill Guy

Adobe recently announced the new CS 4 suite which includes a new version of Photoshop. I know that both in class and from emails, I will be asked if now would be good time to upgrade. I always say the same the thing. If you are happy with your current version and can do all the things you need then don’t upgrade. However if you want to do more, have more choices in how you work then maybe it is time. The answer to the question of should I upgrade now or wait is unless the new version is due out then don’t wait. There will always be newer versions on the horizon and with an 18 month release schedule you really don’t have to wait long.
From an educator’s point of view, new releases are always exciting and daunting. Exciting for the new tools and ways of doing things with the promise of more ease and creativity. Daunting for many more hours of both play and learning how these tools work so that I can show and explain how to use them.
For those who are wondering if the shiny new box is right for them let me just offer this. After the release of a new Photoshop all books, lessons and Podcasts will be only for the latest CS number so while you will glean some useful information it just becomes more frustrating. We here at NOBS do promise to answer your questions and to help in any way we can.
So as we all watch for the latest shiny objects from Adobe let hope they make all of our lives easier and more productive.
