Since some readers of the NoBS Photo Success Dogbowl Newsletter are not currently NoBS members, we thought we would introduce you to a few of the speakers who will be presenting at the 2008 Nashville NoBS Inferno. Perhaps, once you see the high caliber of speakers attending, you may be swayed to take that leap and become a NoBS member so that you, too, can attend the Inferno .
For those of you already making the journey to our mecca of photography seminars, here is your primer on the speakers. If you're not excited yet about what you are about to experience, hold on to your seats.

Kris Gay

Kris Gay owns and operates Bella Vita Studios, a small home based photography studio in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She began her photography career six years ago by doing what many of us have done to learn- practicing on friends and family! Several years later, she began a small part time business after being turned down for assistant work by every photographer in town. What started as a plan to make some extra money having fun quickly turned into a full time career. Kris started her business with weddings as they fit into her schedule as a full time public teacher at the time. Later, she branched out to portraits, commercial work, and some school and sports photography. NOBS PhotoSuccess has been absolutely crucial to her success by offering the business and marketing assistance she needed to take her business full time.
With a diverse background in professional audio and video sales as well as formerly being a full time music teacher in the public schools, Kris has a technical side as well as a creative side that come together in her love of photography. By finding her passion for photography and then building her photography career later in life, Kris understands the needs of the photographer who builds their business while transitioning from another career.
Kris' goal in her Inferno presentation is to present a unique marketing opportunity to the attendees regarding working with school music programs. Also included in her presentation will be a bonus disc for every Inferno attendee containing the Lumapix Fotofusion templates and Adobe Lightroom presets which have greatly increased the speed of her workflow process.
When not working at her home based photography studio, Kris enjoys spending time with her husband Chad and her daughter Katie. Chad is a middle school music teacher and composer. Katie is a third grader who enjoys Suzuki cello and baseball. The resident studio dog is Lily, a Beagle/Dachshund mix, that keeps Kris company throughout the work day.
Little known facts about Kris include her love of Astronomy and reading science books, Corona beer, and a morbid fascination with sharks. She collects teapots, loves tattoos, and plays about twelve different musical instruments. She currently plays in the local university orchestra in the cello section.
Favorite movie: Can't choose- I like variety. Who has time for movies anyway? I can tell you what I don't like. Horror movies. No blood and gore for me, thank you.
Hobbies: Playing music, Astronomy, reading science books and magazines
Drink: Diet Coke or almost any kind of beer
Food: Spicy or hot
Band: I can't even narrow this down to one genre. I listen to everything from Bach to Metallica to Zappa to the latest R&B and rap. I try to listen to something different than the previous day. I listen to music almost all the time at home. I don't watch TV much.
Why You Should Come To Inferno
Are you still on the fence about coming to the 2008 Nashville Inferno? Here, straight from NoBS members who attended in the past, are the reasons you should come:
"The infernos are a great resource for us. Bruce and I have been there both years and Rob and James take great care in setting up great speakers who offer fantastic ideas and information. The best part of going though is to meet a whole lot of people who are in the same position as you are or have been where you are, no matter what your level of experience. The idea sharing and the ability to connect with a whole lot of other people with similar situations is worth more than the money you will pay to go.
What is holding you back from signing up?
Nicole N."
"Inferno is a must if you want to grow as a photographer.
For that matter, any seminar or NoBS get together is priceless.
The encouragement you get from others, the speakers, brainstorming, networking, putting a face to the names you see hear all are indespensible.
My first one was last years and I jumped at the chance to learn with Steve & Shelly and now Andy Armstrong.
This isn't like going to the traveling seminars where in the end they are mainly trying to sell you there products (I'm not knocking these, you can still learn things) this is a concentrated learning environment.
Get there!
Eric"
"I'm not raking in thousands of bucks every month and I'm still going.... the more we know the more we grow! NoBS isn't like those other snobby forums
Your courage, motivation and enthusiasm will soar after the inferno, you'll regret it if you don't go when it's only 3 hours away from you (I regret not going to Vegas last time)!
Besides, we don't bite... well most of us don't bite and those that do don't really have any teeth. I'm also pretty sure have had all their shots. Curiosity alone trying to sort out who might be toothless should get you there now. heheee
Looking forward to meeting you in Nov.!!!
Melissa"
"You won't regret your decesion of coming to Inferno! You'll love it!
Dan"

Nashville is primarily known as the Country Music Capital of the United States. Here you can find the Grand Ole Opry, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and a huge number of recording studios, including Studio B which was the recording home of such greats as Elvis Presley, the Everly Brothers, and Chet Atkins among others. There is also a great deal of important American history in Nashville. Chief among the historical attractions is The Hermitage, which was the home of President Andrew Jackson.

The NoBS family recently welcomed Sandy Puc' to its ranks. Sandy is a renowned children's portrait photographer who recently concluded the wildly popular Bellies and Babies Tour. She has a new tour in the works for next year, which you can read about here. Welcome and we look forward to sharing our knowledge and learning from you!

Adobe recently announced the new CS 4 suite which includes a new version of Photoshop. I know that both in class and from emails, I will be asked if now would be good time to upgrade. I always say the same the thing. If you are happy with your current version and can do all the things you need then don’t upgrade. However if you want to do more, have more choices in how you work then maybe it is time. The answer to the question of should I upgrade now or wait is unless the new version is due out then don’t wait. There will always be newer versions on the horizon and with an 18 month release schedule you really don’t have to wait long.
