Member of the Month: Ruth
A hearty congratulations go out to NoBS member Ruth who image was chosen as the October Photo of the Month. She also garnered the Member of the Month with this accomplishment. Here's her story:
I have always been drawn to photography. As a child, I had the Kodak camera that had the pop off flash cubes. I documented all the important things: my hair styles, my Christmas presents (in a pile under the tree), my birthday presents all piled on the couch, my girlfriends' hair styles, my cats, my bedroom. you know, all the important things. It wasn't until after college while working for the airlines that I actually bought a Pentax SLR and started to document my travels.
Life changed a few things and I couldn’t afford the luxury of photography so I put my camera away until my daughter got married. That was the turning point for me three years ago. The photographer she used did a very average job. I remember thinking to myself, "I know I can do better than this". So, the very next day I broke out my five megapixel point and shoot (which I fondly called my little girl camera) and practiced on everyone I could. Slowly, I built up my equipment, joined a forum and pushed myself very hard, made friends, attended seminars, and practiced.
Just a little over one year ago I followed my friend Tina to NoBS. NoBS gave me the boost I needed to take my photography to a new level. I wouldn't be half as good as I am if it weren't for the information gained and the friends that I have made. I want to thank everyone at NoBS for their help, support and friendship. And whoever nominated my image!!! Oh and a great big shout out to Ricky for his help too. Where would I be without you guys!!!
