The way I got started in photography was a complete accident for me. I was with two friends of mine who had been photographers for about ten years each. One of them had a photo shoot to do of a class reunion and had invited me, and the other photographer as well, to come along. After the shoot we all went out to eat at waffle house. The two of them had always talked about going into business together and this night it seemed as if it was going to finally become a reality for them! They asked me if I would want to be in it with them as an assisant. I was STOKED! I had never taken pictures before besides the normal snapshot stuff but I was eager to learn. I was ready to quit my job and everything! These guys had real jobs and I figured that if they were willing to give that up then it must be a good avenue for me to take too. They brought me back to earth and explained that this would just be a weekend thing. That was still fine for me. I cleared out my savings account two days later and bought a camera. I played and played with that camera and took pictures of EVERYHING! This was in the film days and it started adding up quickly. After about two weeks passed I got to see my "new business" associates again. I was so excited to tell them about how I bought my camera and was ready to get started. They looked at me and said: "Oh, we're not going to do it anymore, it won't work".... And there I stood with nothing to say just a big knot in my throat. I had bought this camera and had no money because of it. I had a choice to make; either cut my losses or make it happen. That was back in 1998 when I was a senior in high school. I've been trying to "make it happen" ever since and haven't looked back.

Since going digital and finding NoBS my photography has improved in ways that I never could have imagined. I've learned so much in such a short period of time. The photo that won "Photo of the Month" was actually something that put me completely out of my element. My knowledge that NoBS has given me helped me figure exactly what to do. I am accustomed to photographing seniors and maternity is totally different. I think that I have started to become known as someone who pushes the limits on the simplest of things and I didn't want to make this any different. It was my second ever maternity shoot and I was nervous. I started to think of things that would help me relax and just take awesome photos. I figured that I would just try to have fun. That's what I always do on my senior shoots. Well, it worked. She was comfortable, I was comfortable and we had a blast. I always wanted to have a field like the one she was in for a senior shoot. So, I decided to just treat this as that, a senior shoot. I loved the way the sky was looking and how the tall grass was standing and I wanted it to compliment her. I noticed how she was walking in the tall grass and asked her to start walking forward. When she got to the spot I wanted I asked her if she could see anything in front of her feet that looked "round". She stopped and held her stomach to look down.... that's when I snapped the picture. It was pure and innocent and conveyed a mood that I felt was just surreal. Her mom wants to order a 20x30 of that shot. I guess she liked it too =]

Oh, and the "round" object I was asking her about was her belly, hahahahahahahahaha!!! See, I just have fun all the time :)
