If you were to ask me what I wanted to be when I was little I would have said a cashier but if that didn't work out I wanted to be a business owner. Yeah you might say I was not your typical child.
Obviously running the barcode through the scanner was not quite as fabulous as I had imagined it to be.
So then my backup goal came in to place. After high school I began studying marketing and business. Long story short I got a little too caught up in that whole "very rich investor" crowd. That time in my life was really weird, now that I look back. I was a very different person... and not at all myself. Hanging out with people who only cared about money. Yet, I can't complain... I was the same way. Stepping on whom-ever to make it to the top.
Luckily for me I got a big hit on the head that broke me away from that path and fast. Now if you asked me what I would do if I won 10 million dollars... I'd tell you I'd get rid of it as fast as I could.
I happened to take a very short unofficial course on photography during the "weird stage" of my life. I'm actually a "licensed professional photographer"... man I'm glad that didn't go to my head!To say it nicely the course was a crock of you know what.
But, the interest it sparked for me in turn created skills for me and ended up carrying me through that bad time, and I came to realize while working for another photography studio that I really, really, really loved what I was doing, and I was ready to change my life direction.
The business person in me kicked in and as of January 2007 I officially had my own photography studio.
I've loved absolutely every second of every day since then... ok maybe not every second, but it sure beats what I was into before. It quietly and quickly went from just me, to a manager, and an accountant, and a couple assistants, and a graphic designer, and an ad for another photographer... I've just now began to realize that somehow this has gotten a little bigger than I thought it would. We actually have an official waiting list now.
I have to say that all of this has come as a direct result of switching my thinking from trying to market to every area of portraiture, to one area of portraiture. Babies and their families. People on here think I only do babies now. You couldn't be more wrong. I ONLY MARKET for babies, but I take whatever comes in minus weddings. I market to babies because over and over again it has proven to be the best ROI for my marketing time. I might be a little more happy doing seniors or what not, don't get me wrong I love photographing babies, but lets be honest they are not the easiest of subjects. The point is that I am in business to make money, period. And this formula happens to be working the best for me at the moment.
