January Member and Photo of the Month: Jaco

Call him automatic! Long-time NoBS member and vendor Jaco is our first member of the month for 2009 and who once again has been honored by his NoBS peers. Congrats, Jaco! Here is the story behind his winning image as well as an update on his career.

"Photography is my passion and it is the way I parse my Lord and Saviour. Obviously it is great to get recognition for your efforts. It is a great feeling when the bride and groom love their images. This year a dream came true for me. If you get the Rangefinder Magazine check out page 80 of the February 2009 issue to see what they have to say about our work. Shooting weddings is the ultimate job, I get paid to have fun and see the world while doing it. One of my goals is to get my Masters in Photography. Only time will tell as I am so busy with a lot of projects in my life. 2008 was a great year and I feel that 2009 will be even better so let’s see what happens."

I saw the old man sitting there in the corner of the venue. He reminded me of my grandfather who passed away. He looked so at peace with himself, I could not resist taking a photo of him. I shot the image at ISO 5000 on my Nikon D3 with my Nikon 70-200 VR lens. The image was a bit grainy. I decided to make an artwork of the image and to bring out more of the old man’s character.
