Somebody Loves Us

For just a moment, I would like to take the time to recognize what a great group we have here at NoBS. I am a member (and lurker) on a few other photography forums. Over the last few years I have watched the membership of these forums- ours and the others. It seems to me that NoBS has done a lot of special things that nobody else is doing and I would like to mention those things:

1. We all just get along. There really doesn't seem to be too much infighting here. Sure, we don't always agree on things and may not adore every member, but for the most part everyone just, well, plays nice.

2. NoBS is a conducive atmosphere for learning. Never once have I seen a member outright belittle another photographer and/or their work. It just doesn't work like that here.

a. Additionally, if someone has a question it gets answered here- usually within minutes.

b. There are constantly people willing to do tutorials and share what they have here- there don't seem to be any 'big secrets' that we feel we have to hide from others.

c. We have a strong member supported forum with high participation. This is key to the learning process. I have been to forums where 10 posts TOTAL per day (within the whole membership) is a big number of posts. How many hundreds of posts do we have a day?!

3. We have become a true community. When one of our members suffers a tragedy we pull together and give whatever support we can. By the same token we celebrate each other's victories. I know that when I have something important I want to share, NoBS is on the short list of people I wanna share with (sorry guys, real life family comes first.)

4. Anyone who joins here seems to be on the fast track to success. However you define success it seems that NoBS will help you achieve your goals. I have been excited to watch how quickly our members grow as photographers and business people. I see friends who were just starting out (as I was) 4 years ago building new studios, entering markets they never thought they could have, turning their part-time hobbies into full-time careers. I have watched people who barely knew how to turn on their camera evolve into amazing technicians of their craft.

5. There is less grandstanding. We don't need 'THE Big Boys' here to validate us. I talked with Hodgy about this the other day and the cool thing about the 'big names' of photography is NoBS is now starting to churn out it's own 'big names.' Before too long I foresee our members being the folks you read about all the time in the magazines- pretty cool, eh? And the best part about our homegrown headliners is they just don't turn into prima donas- they are still down to earth and willing to share as ever.

I would not be where I am had I not stumbled on this place. I love all of you guys (yes even YOU! ;) ) and I just wanted to take a few minutes to remind you all of what we can do when we work together and stick together.

{{{hugs}}} to all of you!
